Overwatch 2 Tier List: The Best Characters to Use

Overwatch 2 continues to captivate players with its diverse roster of heroes, each offering unique abilities and playstyles. Understanding which characters perform best in the current meta is key to climbing the ranks and improving your game. Whether you're a tank, DPS, or support player, this tier list will help guide you to the best picks for success. Players can also buy items for their characters on the Battle.net Store after topping up their wallets with PaysafeCard.

1. S-Tier: The Top Performers

S-tier heroes are the strongest in the game right now. These characters dominate in almost every scenario, with their high impact making them essential picks in both casual and competitive play.

  • Orisa (Tank)

Orisa is a front-line tank that shines in nearly every situation. Her strong defensive abilities, like Fortify and Javelin Spin, make her incredibly difficult to take down. She can control the battlefield with ease, absorbing damage and disrupting enemies with her Energy Javelin. Orisa is a perfect pick for players looking to anchor their team.

  • Sojourn (DPS)

Sojourn is one of the most dangerous DPS heroes due to her high mobility and devastating burst damage. Her railgun deals heavy damage when fully charged, allowing her to finish off weakened enemies with ease. Paired with her Power Slide, Sojourn can quickly reposition and stay safe, making her a top choice for damage dealers.

  • Kiriko (Support)

Kiriko is an indispensable support hero, providing both healing and powerful utility. Her Protection Suzu can cleanse negative effects and grant temporary invulnerability, which can turn fights in your favour. Kiriko’s Swift Step lets her teleport to teammates, offering excellent mobility. Her Kitsune Rush ultimate boosts both healing and damage output for her team, making her a must-pick in coordinated games.

2. A-Tier: Strong and Reliable

These heroes are not quite as dominant as the S-tier picks but still very strong. They may require a bit more team coordination or situational awareness, but they can be extremely effective in the right hands.

  • Winston (Tank)

Winston is the ideal tank for dive compositions, excelling at jumping into the enemy backline and creating chaos. His Jump Pack allows for high mobility, while his Barrier Projector shields his teammates and himself. Winston’s Primal Rage ultimate is excellent for disrupting the enemy team and can single-handedly turn the tide of a fight.

  • Cassidy (DPS)

Cassidy is a solid and dependable DPS pick. His Magnetic Grenade ensures he can deal with fast-moving targets, while his Peacekeeper revolver provides strong mid-range damage. Cassidy is less mobile than other DPS heroes but makes up for it with reliable firepower and the ability to take down key targets.

  • Ana (Support)

Ana remains a top-tier support with her long-range healing and impactful abilities. Her Biotic Rifle provides excellent healing and damage, while her Sleep Dart can shut down aggressive opponents. Ana’s Nano Boost ultimate is a game-changer, greatly increasing a teammate’s damage and survivability. She is a strong pick for players who can aim well and have good game sense.

3. B-Tier: Balanced but Situational

B-tier heroes are still viable but may not be as effective across all situations. They work best when paired with specific team compositions or against certain enemies.

  • Reinhardt (Tank)

Reinhardt is a classic, reliable tank that excels in tight spaces and brawling scenarios. His Barrier Field provides excellent protection, and his Fire Strike allows him to deal damage from a distance. Earthshatter, Reinhardt’s ultimate, remains one of the best crowd-control tools in the game. However, his low mobility can make him vulnerable in more open maps.

  • Tracer (DPS)

Tracer is a high-skill hero with great potential to carry games. Her high mobility and burst damage make her a constant threat to the enemy’s backline. However, she has a steep learning curve and can be difficult to master due to her low health pool and reliance on good positioning. In the hands of a skilled player, Tracer can dominate, but she is not as easy to use as some other DPS picks.

  • Lucio (Support)

Lucio is a versatile support with excellent mobility and team utility. His Speed Boost is invaluable for helping your team engage or escape, and his Sound Barrier ultimate is perfect for countering powerful enemy ultimates. Lucio may not provide as much healing as Ana or Kiriko, but his mobility and ability to enable fast team play means he’s a great choice in many compositions.

3. C-Tier: Niche but Playable

C-tier heroes are more situational and can be useful in specific circumstances or with certain team compositions.

  • Zarya (Tank)

Zarya’s power comes from her ability to absorb damage through Particle Barrier and Projected Barrier, which charges up her weapon to deal heavy damage. However, her reliance on building charge makes her vulnerable, especially in faster-paced games. Zarya can still shine in double-shield compositions, but her playstyle is more niche compared to the more versatile tanks.
  • Symmetra (DPS)

Symmetra is a hero that excels in specific map situations where she can make use of her Sentry Turrets and Teleporter. Her Photon Projector deals strong close-range damage, but she struggles in more open environments and against faster enemies. Symmetra is best used in defensive team setups or in coordinated strategies.

  • Brigitte (Support)

Brigitte has a more limited role in the current meta, but she can still be effective in close-quarters team fights. Her Inspire passive healing and Shield Bash ability give her some crowd control, but she lacks the mobility and healing output of other supports like Kiriko or Ana. As a result, Brigitte works best in brawl compositions.

Overwatch 2 Tier List: Choices to Suit Almost all Playstyles

Choosing the right hero in Overwatch 2 can make all the difference in your gameplay experience. S-tier heroes like Orisa, Sojourn, and Kiriko offer a combination of power and versatility that dominates the game. A-tier heroes like Winston and Cassidy are also excellent picks but may require a bit more coordination to fully utilise. Lower-tier heroes can still be fun and effective in the right situations.
