2. Advance fee scams

You’re asked to pay upfront for something valuable that never materialises, like a prize, loan, or job.

Red flags:

• Pressure to act fast
• Unexpected offers or “guaranteed” deals

Tip: Legitimate opportunities never require payment before you receive anything.

3. Investment scams

Scammers pose as advisors or companies offering “guaranteed” returns through fake platforms or apps.

Warning signs:

• Promises of high or guaranteed profits
• Urgent pressure to invest now
• Flashy dashboards or fake websites

Tip: If returns sound too good to be true, they probably are. Verify with a trusted financial advisor before sending money.
 

4. Impersonation scams

Fraudsters pretend to be a family member, employer, or even government agency to make you send money or personal details.

Look out for:

• Unexpected requests for money or information
• Messages from unverified sources
• Urgent demands or emotional pressure

5. Money mule scams

You’re offered “easy money” for moving funds through your account. This may seem harmless, but it’s a serious offence that can lead to frozen accounts or legal trouble.
