The 2017 gamer wish list

Der Gamer-Wunschzettel 2017
Games 12/04/2017

Christmas rolls around year after year, providing us with a time for contemplation. At least, once the pre-Christmas stress has been handled and our bellies have been filled with a delicious holiday feast. For anyone who isn't yet sure what to jot down on their Christmas list, here is a touch of inspiration. Furthermore, for all those desperately searching for the perfect gift idea for the gamer in their lives, let it be said: It is actually very easy to make a gamer happy. A good start is by providing a bit of understanding when that gamer wants to try out their new gift right away, and so attempts a retreat into their gaming den.

Project Cars 2

You can't go wrong with a decent racing game, and leading the charge this year is Project Cars 2. If you want to feel the tyres really wear out and you value authentic driving physics, then this is the game for you. The options available even just for preparing the race can be a touch overwhelming. However, it is precisely this diversity that characterises Project Cars 2. Anyone who has ever wanted to compete in a 24-hour race can do so in this game.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins

Placing the action-adventure highlight of the year – Assassin’s Creed: Origins – under the Christmas tree is sure to put a twinkle in the eye of any gamer. It doesn't matter if we play as Bayek scrambling over the mighty pyramids and revealing the Pharaoh's intrigues, or if we're circling over Egypt in the guise of our eagle Senu: Ubisoft's new episode in the series ensures we have a completely successful Assassin's Creed experience.

Star Wars: Battlefront II

The real fans have, of course, jumped on the release and are already playing it. However, for those who aren't already enjoying Star Wars: Battlefront II, the following applies: This title simply must be placed on your wish list. The latest adventure in the Star Wars universe not only brings us loads of action, but also an exciting storyline – this time from the unfamiliar perspective of the Empire.

The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs

Finally, the add-on for The Sims 4 which it seems the whole world has been waiting for: Cats and dogs are finally returning to the homes of our Sims! Of course, we get to decide what our beloved fur-ball looks like. As usual, the numerous cat and dog breeds can be mixed together, as well as individually customised. Those who can't get enough of their furry friends can even start up their own veterinary practice.

Cuphead

Anyone receiving Cuphead will be forced to ask themselves whether they want to use it as a source of joy, or to push themselves to desperation. At any rate, this game is always an experience. Seldom has a game so trapped us with its cute appearance like Cuphead. It's perfect for any gamers who can never find a game tough enough, and who really want to test themselves – and in the process develop some new grey hairs and wrinkles.

FIFA 18

The top position on the Christmas wish list this year will yet again go to the current FIFA release. This is a football simulation you can truly rely upon, and the worldwide fan-base looks forward to their favourite teams' matches every year. If you want to sprint across the field alongside Ronaldo, Robben, and Co., then you can't miss out on FIFA 18. After all, it's the football game with the most exclusive rights – and it just looks damn good.

Super Mario Odyssey

For owners of a Switch, a must-have item and (thanks to its adorable design) an ideal Christmas gift is of course: Super Mario Odyssey. With our favourite plumber Mario we embark on a journey around the world, and can fully enjoy our explorer's instincts alongside our magical hat "Cappy". That's because when we throw our cap onto a Gumba, a T. rex, or even just a stone, mere seconds later we're hopping across the screen in the same shape. An outlandish idea which ensures loads of gaming fun.

Aside from games: These are always enjoyed by gamers

  • Nerdy t-shirts with quotes only gamers understand
  • Collectable figurines from the noble to the cute and fluffy
  • Vouchers for relevant (online) speciality shops, or universal payment methods such as paysafecard
  • New hardware, from a gaming mouse to a pro controller or a headset
  • For an extravagant present, a graphics card or a complete console isn't out of the question – these will earn you the gamer's eternal gratitude
