The most popular eSports “disciplines” include League of Legends, DOTA2, CS GO and World of Tanks. The publishers behind these games are Riot Games, Valve and Wargaming.net. A glance at these top gaming industry business partners of paysafecard and even ardent sceptics are left with no doubt that eSports are an important industry for reaching that target group.
For this reason, paysafecard has teamed up with the ESL (Electronic Sports League) this year to put together a sponsoring and promotion package that gave it a foothold in eSports, as well as the opportunity to give something back to gaming’s target group:
For both Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in Frankfurt’s Commerzbank-Arena (June 20th-21st) and Cologne’s LANXESS arena (August 22nd-23rd), respectively. Kick-started by paysafecard, Dota 2 was set to receive its first ever ESL Go4 cup series as the online payment company looked to help support and extend the grassroots, amateur eSports scene. The ongoing cup series featured monthly finals streamed live on ESL TV.
Fans of the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) and first-person shooter (FPS) genres who come from Southeast Europe were looking forward to an entirely new competition series: the ESL South East Europe Championship, featuring tournaments for both League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Supported and funded by paysafecard, competitors could enjoy full seasons of weekly competitions, with finals for the championship to played out in May during Bucharest’s Comic Con.
Moreover the ESL S.K.I.L.L. Pro League was boosted by paysafecard. Finals for the first season took place at gamescom 2015 with the free-to-play shooter’s season two finals.
