With 435 attendees from over 25 nations, the Prepaid 2012 Conference & Expo in London (12-14 June) was a huge success.
One of the highlights of this year’s event was the announcement of the “Prepaid Power 10” award winner. Over 20,000 industry leaders had casted their vote for the “top ten contributors to the European prepaid industry”. We are proud to announce that our CEO, Michael Mueller, made it into the top 10. The award went to Matt Lanford, Senior Business Leader, Prepaid Europe at Mastercard Worldwide. Congratulations!
As one of 75 speakers at the conference, Michael shared his thoughts about the role of prepaid in online games, whilst Mastercard gave an insight into the “Cashless Society”. According to one of the company’s recent surveys, Americans are using less cash today than they used to 10 years ago. One reason behind this development is the change of commerce through the Internet.
Just like Mastercard, we also strongly believe that the future belongs to “Cashless Payments”. With products such as our paysafecard and our Prepaid Mastercard® YUNA – which can be used online and offline at any place where Mastercard is accepted – we meet the needs of millions of consumers. Prepaid cards like YUNA do not only give people control over their expenses. Rather than carrying notes and coins, users can simply charge their YUNA with the desired amount of money.
Another interesting trend was presented by Visa: “Contactless Payment”. During the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Visa and Samsung will equip sponsored athletes and trialists with a Samsung Galaxy S III enabled with Visa’s mobile payment application, Visa payWave.
Whatever the future might bring, it seems to be certain that cash payments will decrease – and that consumers will, in the next coming months and years, benefit from further improvements in cashless payment methods.
